First off, let me say how much I love my friends. Especially my guy friends. The ones who love God and love me purely and want nothing but His best in my life. The ones I know will try to protect me even if they don’t have to, from real (or imagined) threats. I especially love the truths they speak into my life. Last night, over the yummiest dinner, we had a conversation about non-negotiables. But not of the usual track of listing down things we won’t be able to live without in a future partner. This time the tables were turned and the question asked was: what can you offer your future partner? The answers were hilarious, some touching. Others so mindblowingly true and honest that I couldn’t help but sit quietly and think. I walked away from the group deeper in thought about the things I still and now want in my life, even in the midst of years of disappointment and heartbreak in so many areas. The thing is, last night wasn’t really about a bunch of singles talking about finally being married. Last night for me was about vision. And just an assurance that the vision for my life (and the path I’m on to get there) is, because it was given to me by God, a good thing. This time last year, I was heartbroken about so many things and felt like I was just coasting but barely surviving. I hung on by a thread and by His grace, I pulled through. Circumstances haven’t changed. They’re still trying and challenging and frustrating—but the disposition that comes from having truths embed themselves in your heart is priceless. I feel anchored, steadfast and immovable. I suppose, whether or not I get what I want, this is what life is about. Learning to stand in faith and learning to worship and praise a God whose vision for me is much better than I can ever dream for myself. If anything, I’m excited. So excited. Really.
